Happy Easter & Happy Spring 2015. Due to it being Easter
Long weekend and families and volunteers being away, plus with unpredictable
weather in early spring, the SCA has decided to cancel this year’s Easter
Egg Hunt that was scheduled on the community lands for April 4, 2015. We
will look for an indoor site where we could possibly host the event in
Community Clean-up for Silverado is Sunday, April 26th 10:00 am to 2:00 pm.
We will be meeting at the Silverado Community Garden which is located at the
intersection of Silverado Drive S.W. & Silverado Range Close S.W. at 10:00
am. We will have the community tent set up where volunteers can get gloves
and garbage bags to pick up trash and help keep our community clean. We will
debrief shortly after 10 am and review some maps of the community areas we
need to cover. First we will clean up the community lands and the soccer
fields where the Southwest United Tykes program has soccer each spring. We
will then break off into groups and clean areas of need around the
community. If you have identified an area in need please let us know and we
can send in a team of volunteers to help clean up that area. After doing the
clean-up the first year (2013) we found there was a lot of garbage and dog
poop that had accumulated in the community as Silverado did not have a clean
up in previous years. The second year (2014) that we did the clean-up there
was noticeably less garbage and dog poop. To stay consistent from year to
year and to ensure our community looks good any volunteer help we get is
Additionally this is a great opportunity for home owners to bring their
spring cleaning garbage and discards as the City of Calgary garbage trucks
will be present. Old couches or mattresses can be crushed by the trucks on
site or any other households items you may have. Please note tires,
household chemicals, car batteries, metals, home appliances, propane tanks,
glass, paint, microwaves, liquids will not be accepted by the City of
Calgary garbage trucks. Old electronics will also be accepted by the
Community Association volunteers on this day to help you with disposal.
Also on site there will be an organic garbage truck that will take leaves,
branches, grass clippings, weeds, or other organic materials. This is a
great opportunity for community members to spring clean their yard and home
before the summer season.
For all volunteers that help in the Community Clean-up we will serve hot &
cold drinks and lunch in appreciation for everyone involved with clean-up.
Hope to see you there.
Happy Spring Everyone,
Silverado Community Association President
